Creating Your Own Layers of Preparedness

canned goodsI’ve been asked a lot of questions in the past, but the most recent one was… “If you grow and can your own food, why do you store store-bought canned food?”

That was a legitimate question.

My answer is, “In order to sustain life – we must eat (and have water). I also believe our preparedness efforts must be layered.

Have you looked at the layers of your own preparedness?

Layering your preps is the Plan A/B/C.

With the food for example…. If we had to up and leave our primary home… carrying those heavy glass Mason/Ball jars is going to be impossible… so we have the cans we can take… and if that fails…. we have the MRE’s. There are 3 layers to just our food.

When your putting together your own preparedness plan, don’t forget to layer! This goes for everything preparedness: food, water, shelter, and security!

I’ll have some more post this week about the cans of food you see in the picture and some other canning experiences. Stay tuned!

  1. Very good point canning your own food is great but there is so much we need that we can’t or don’t can outselves so you have to be open to store bought items. Also having to bug out also like you mentioned those jars in bulk can way a ton and are not viable for travel in anykind of useful quantity as some of the purchase options out there are.
